OUR
GREAT MILESTONE - LALZOVA

Mizo people are very
fond of singing, they sing at the time of festivals,
at wedding days, at Christmas and even when they are
lonely. Many of their songs are composed by Lalzova.
He is one of the forerunner or pioneer on Mizo
history in songs. Lalzova was born on 2nd December,
1924. His father is the first and only tailor in
Lunglei and his mother is a housewife. He was a
studious student and often stood first in his class.
Our ancestors say that composers never live long;
due to this his parents did not allow their son to
do composing. He loved composing songs, drawing and
paintings. He knew how to play all mizo musical
instruments. He composed his first song called
‘Lalnun- Nemi’ which was the name of his girlfriend.
Later, he composed many love songs, Christian songs,
country music etc. he was also called ‘Father of
Love songs’. He was interested in sports and other
games. He once participated in the Tilbury Cup
Hockey Tournament. But he couldn’t play the finals
because of typhoid. During this time three people
had died because of typhoid and his parents and
family had very less hope. Unfortunately, he passed
away from the earth on 8th December 1945 when he was
just 21 years old. Mizoram had lost a great
composer, painter and musician. His grave is at
Bazar Veng Cementery no.1 and his memorial stone is
kept at Venglai and Lunglei district museum, Lunglei.
A great mizo song composer had died but his songs
and his contributions are still remembered. |
